Well, I didn’t win the Viper Talent Contest. But as the runner up I ended up with an online graphic novel for them anyway! Pretty cool.

Only problem is, now I have to come up with a concept! Well, actually, a bunch of concepts so they can pick one. Wish me luck, guys, I’m going in!

Final Hours of Small Press Idol Round 2

7:51 pm in Personal, Projects by George Burnett

from Ian Shires
Thursday “Last report before final” Standings Post

Well, it’s all come down to the next 9 hours. Who will be in Round 3? Who will have those coveted bragging rights positions up top? Let’s look at the movement as of this morning:

The Underground knocked Maddie Scientist out of that solid #2 spot it held most of the round. will it KEEP IT? We’ll see! Both projects seem to have pulled out all the stops…meanwhile The White Rose is poised to say “OH YEAH?”. The Machine has dug in it’s heels at #5, and it doesn’t look like anyone’s about to topple them out of that position, but you never know!

In the middle, The Doorknob Society’s aggressive advertising keeps them moving up – taking Mr Man down a notch, but neither are in any actual danger. Same goes in the shuffle that happened with Earthman moving up 2, Dairy of a Teenage Heroine staying in the same place, and Project Mercury dropping 2.

But the real action – and interest – is at the Dreaded Line. Nevil pulled off a huge day, hitting their highest vote day of the round and jumping up 4 positions. Knocking Dinos under the line again in the process. That line is huge now, and Dinos will need to get 20 more votes than Boulder Colorado gets, to move above that line again. Impossible? Obviously not. Let’s look at these numbers!

1.) 1065 Votes (+44) – 103 Voters (2NC) Faction – Judges Vote: 3 Yes.
2.) 720 Votes (+70) – 120 Voters ( +6) The Underground – Judges Vote: 3 Yes.

Numbers Explained: # Votes Total – # Voters Total (# in parenthesis is new since last count)

If there is a Tie: The numbers are used from left to right. So #votes is first, if that is a tie, then the (+#) is used to break it, if that is a tie, then the next…if a project moves into an absolute tie across the board, whichever project was lower in the previous count will be placed in the upper position in question, as they have more momentum in how they got to the tie.

Almost… there… just… a little… further…

Hi CAG-Members! Was great to meet some of the NE CHAPTER on Sunday in CT!

Well, I was so tired last night I fell asleep before sending the nightly voting reminders. Promoting my entry in this contest has been a full-time job for the last 10 days, and I have been working overtime…

But it’s paid off! Amazingly, we jumped to 4th place yesterday! Thank you for your continued support! Those of you already voting every day, just keep it up for 3 more days!

If you are not voting every day, then here’s why I need YOU… we’ve got 3 days left. I’m about 60 to 80 votes behind the people in front of me right now (at my last unofficial count) and I’d really like to see if we can break into the top 3. I need more votes per day to do that. I’m currently averaging 57 votes a day.

That means a) new voters, and b) more return voters.

So if you’ve voted already – come on back and vote again (once a day).

And if you have not voted yet – I need you now! This might be your last chance to make a difference for this round. So come join in! We’re having fun & you can help me break into the Top 3!

If you need guidance, check out these links:

Here’s the White Rose Voting Thread. GO HERE TO VOTE.

*********FRIDAY 4/24 IDOL VOTE REPORT***********
from Ian Shires

Well, they can’t ALL be record days, and thank goodness for that! We saw a little bit of softening of the intensity yesterday, but even those kinds of days shows us a LOT about what’s going on.

The Underground is poised for a top 5 slot. And they did that with no new voters…just return voters. That shows me their fans are serious – even if the project missed a day of promoting to new people. The White Rose ran over Haxxor – but let’s look at that…Rose has almost twice as many voters as Haxxor. Seriously, at their rate, when Underground bumps itself up a couple more slots, the White Rose will be right behind it…with Top 5 projects less than half each day what those 2 are. It shows us the difference between getting in early and making that early splash, and coming in fighting. People wonder why we post projects as they come in instead of all at once, and this really illustrates why. Study those numbers, and see what they tell YOU!

More importantly, is what’s happening down at THE LINE…where project’s chances at getting a Cover Slot or #0 issue hang in the balance. Dinos jumps up 2 spots to move above the line, showing Quick Draw that life at the line is no fun as it only spent one day above. Look at the mid-range, ALL of you who are below the line. There are projects getting less than 10 votes. This is your opportunity to assert yourself, and claim a spot in Round 3. Seriously, if your total number of voters, is less than most projects are getting votes in one day, then you have work to do. I mean, back up slots in anthologies are nice…but a shot at $700 and a publishing contract is nicer. We KNOW it’s hard to sell yourself to the public. But to be a SMALL PRESS IDOL, someone your peers look up to, that is a big part of the game that NO ONE can do for you.

Ok! Let’s get this back into action, here’s the standings….

1.) 820 Votes (+44) – 98 Voters ( +2) Faction – Judges Vote: 3 Yes.
2.) 481 Votes (+38) – 111 Voters ( +3) Maddie Scientist – Judges Vote: 2 Yes.
